why these exist

Archive Studio pieces are made in two ways. Some are released as Editions - small batches of storybook designs you can choose when one feels like your dog. Others are Portrait Commissions - a one-of-a-kind piece created from your specific dog and recorded in the Archive.

I didn’t start this because I wanted to sell dog collars. I started it because I’ve lived with dogs my whole life. When you really live with one you get to know them in a way no one else does. The small things. The habits. The routines. The weird little preferences that don’t matter to anyone else but mean everything to you.

They aren’t interchangeable. The relationship you have with yours is its own private world.

You go places together. Your days slowly arrange themselves around them. And the collar is just… there through all of it. Walks, car rides, waiting by the door, laying near you while you cook, the sound of a tag moving in the house at night. After a while you stop really seeing it. It becomes part of them.

My designs start with those things — little habits, favorite objects, trips you took, the personality only you get to see. I take one piece of that and build a design meant to tell that story.

I turn that design into an engraving leather can hold for years - sometimes waiting for the dog it belongs to, and sometimes created for one in particular. Then the work comes back to the bench — cutting the panel from a hide, preparing it, antiquing, sealing, shaping, stitching, and building the collar to fit your specific dog.

Because someday the collar won’t just be a collar anymore. It will be something that lived a life with them and with you.

In a way every collar starts blank.

Your journey together is what gives it meaning.
